  • Who can apply to the Tomorrow’s Trades program?
Ontario secondary school students in the London and Ottawa regions with previous construction related training or work experience looking for apprenticeship opportunities in the unionized skilled trades.
  • Why should I apply to the program?
The program offers students an opportunity to explore a variety of skilled trades in a hands-on learning environment. This type of exploration with the individual trades will allow participants to understand what a career in the trades entails over the length of the apprenticeship journey and ultimately over an entire career.
  • What is the deadline to apply?
The deadline to submit your application for our London and Ottawa summer and fall programs is May 19, 2023.
  • What kind of daily time commitment is required for the program?
The day will begin between 8:00 and 9:00am at a training centre or our training hub, and end between 3:00pm and4:30pm, depending on the schedule.
  • Do I need to have any gear (safety hat/boots) to participate, or will that be provided?
Successful participants will be given all essential personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hats, work boots, and more, which are required to succeed in their skills training.
  • My application is complete, what happens next?
Completed applications assessments will be reviewed by our intake committee. If the application is successful, you will be invited for an interview as a next step.
  • When will I know if I have been accepted to the program?
All applicants will be notified by June 15, 2023.
  • I was accepted into the Tomorrow’s Trades program, what’s next?
Once accepted you will be notified of the program start date and location, and be provided with the contact information for your program advisor.
  • What is the structure of the program?
The program is tailored to the local job market of each region, meaning training and other workshop dates will be region-specific. Each successful applicant will be provided with a calendar that includes the location of their training hub, and the locations of all the training and workshops they are expected to attend.
  • Is transportation provided for the program?
Students are encouraged to speak to their Cooperative Education teacher regarding the supports that are accessible through the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program.
  • Am I guaranteed to be placed into a job once the program ends?
Although the program is designed to build the skills, knowledge, and experience required to become an apprentice within the skilled trades and the program staff will work with you to pursue a career in the skilled trades, the program cannot guarantee a job upon completion.
